Milestones

From the innovation of Henry Ford to the iconic presence of Kingsford Charcoal, the town of Kingsford, MI is woven in rich historical significance, and is also home to L.R. Vincent truck and service inc.

  • Originating from Sault Ste. Marie, MI in 1958 Henry J. Vincent, saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a Postal route from Dafter, MI to Fibre, MI. He told his son Louis, that he submitted a successful bid for this route, Louis then used a station wagon to haul the mail on this route for about 1 year. Thus becoming the birth of L.R. Vincent.

  • In 1959, further opportunities in the mail business surfaced with a route between Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Iron Mountain, MI . Louis upgraded his station wagon to a pickup truck and at one point even used a hearse.

  • Mid 1960's, a second trip was added to the Sault Ste. Marie - Iron Mountain route, and Louis added another truck. One operated from Iron Mountain to Newberry and the other from Iron Mountain to Sault Ste. Marie.

  • Louis was awarded another route from Sault Ste. Marie, MI to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Canada, and another from Sault Ste. Marie, MI to the Canal station at the Sault Locks. He even had to use a golf cart because it was the only vehicle that was small enough to transfer mail over the gate.

  • As Iron Mountain became a more central point for routes, Louis decided to move to Manistique, MI. He employed two drivers, one drove from Manistique to Iron Mountain and the other drove from Iron Mountain to Newberry.

  • With further expansion, in 1974 Louis decided to move to Iron Mountain. He rented a service station to maintained the trucks there. Six months later, purchased property on U.S. 2 in the Industrial Park.

  • In the mid 1970's to early 1980’s, the Milwaukee, WI and Chicago IL routes were established. The successful implementation of these routes necessitated more growth as these routes required tractor-trailers.

  • 1983 was significant year for business growth. With acquisitions of CAT TEPS (truck/engine/parts/service) a licensed vehicle dealership and repair facility, Beeline alignment, and a 24 hour wrecker service the company began offering repair service to the public.

  • In April 1991, the Kingsford shuttle route began

  • In 1995 Louis sold his company to Causley Trucking Inc. with the promise to operate under the name of L.R.Vincent.

  • Currently L.R. Vincent operates out of Kingsford, MI servicing the United States Postal Service in the Western Upper peninsula and Wisconsin

  • For the many years of outstanding business, Louis received certificates of appreciation-for services rendered from the USPS and the National Star Route Mail Contractors Association. Most importantly, all this was possible through the loyalty, dedication, and hard work of all our employees and support of his loving wife Darlene.
